Christopher Judge is an actor who hails from the United States. He is best recognized for his roles as Kratos in the 2018 video game God of War and as Teal’c in the Canadian-American military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, both of which aired on television in the United States and Canada. He received a football scholarship to attend the University of Oregon and played for a team in the Pacific-10 Conference during his time there.
Judge had the acting bug from a young age and majored in drama in high school in order to pursue his dream. When I was a kid, the television set served as my personal babysitter. I can remember wanting to incite the sensations that I was getting from the television; I wanted to be the one who was the catalyst for those feelings in other people. I can remember wanting to evoke the feelings that I was getting from the television. I have always been certain that I will pursue a career in the performing arts. He was always aware that his involvement in athletics would serve as a stepping stone to a career in acting.
Judge attended the University of Oregon on a full scholarship from 1982 through 1985, during which time he played defensive back and safety for the Ducks football team. He won the Casanova Award in 1982, which is given to the freshman or newcomer of the year, and he led the team in kickoff return yardage from 1983 to 1984. In 1984, he also led the team in interceptions. While attending the University of Oregon, Judge was selected to play in the Hula Bowl in 1985 and was a member of the Pacific-10 Conference in 1984.
Judge won a competition to host a radio show in Oregon, and then in his senior year he won a regional competition to host the West Coast FOX KLSR Morning Show, a “MTV talk show type of thing.” He utilized this experience to seek an agent, and then he moved back to Los Angeles. In 1989, Judge enrolled in classes at the Howard Fine Studio in Los Angeles and began his education there.
His early performances in the 1990s were Bird on a Wire, Cadence, Neon Rider, and MacGyver, in which he appeared alongside Richard Dean Anderson, who would later become famous for his role on Stargate SG-1. In the years that followed, Judge appeared in a number of television shows and films, including 21 Jump Street (in which he shared a scene with Peter DeLuise, who would later become the director of Stargate: Generation 1), The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and House Party 2, in addition to his role as a regular cast member on Sirens from 1994 to 1995.
In 1997, Judge appeared in Stargate SG-1, which was the most significant role of his career. When he was over at a friend’s house, he caught a glimpse of his friend’s roommate rehearsing for an audition for a performance, and it piqued his interest. Judge had a look at the audition notes while his roommate was out of the apartment, then he called his agency and urged that he get him an audition or risk losing him as a client.
There were three individuals trying out for each of the other primary roles during the audition, but there were eight or ten actors trying out for the role of Teal’c. When they eliminated everyone else who had auditioned for the role except for Judge, he felt certain that he had won the part. After that, Judge appeared in episodes of Andromeda, Stargate Atlantis, and The Mentalist. He also had roles in the television movie Personal Effects and the movies Snow Dogs and A Dog’s Breakfast, the latter of which was written and directed by another actor from the Stargate franchise, David Hewlett.
Judge made a guest appearance on the episode of NCIS: Los Angeles titled “Anonymous” which aired on October 26, 2010, and also as one of Bane’s henchmen in the film The Dark Knight Rises, which was released in 2012. The judge is the author of four episodes of Stargate SG-1: “The Warrior” from the fifth season, “The Changeling” from the sixth season, “Birthright” from the seventh season, and “Sacrifices” from the eighth season.
After Stargate SG-1 was canceled, Judge started writing the script for a new program that was going to be named Rage of Angels. This project was going to give him the opportunity to play “the lead in an hour formatted show and prove that a black lead can be commercially viable and sustainable in overseas markets.” The script was sold as a back-door pilot for two hours with MGM but it appears to now be in the possession of Direct TV and Starz Media.
In addition, Judge has provided his voice for a number of animated television shows and computer games, notably the role of Magneto in X-Men: Evolution and Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, which was ultimately canceled. Teal’c reveals to SG-1 in the eighth season episode titled “Avatar” that he plays Def Jam Vendetta. In doing so, he makes a reference to the fact that Judge provides the voice of D-Mob, the primary antagonist in that video game. In the subsequent film, Def Jam: Fight for New York, he made an appearance as D-Mob once more. In Turok, he provided the voice of Jericho.
In the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe from 2002, Judge gave the voice to Zodak. In the computer-generated series Action Man from 2000, he provided the voice of Coach Grey. On June 14, 2016, Judge announced that he would replace Terrence C. Carson as the voice actor for Kratos in the 2018 God of War video game. Carson had previously voiced Kratos for many games. In God of War: Ragnarok, he appeared in the role once again. In addition to being a passionate golfer, Judge is actively involved in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.
Cameron, who is his son, plays linebacker for the Calgary Stampeders, which is a professional Canadian football team. Cameron participated in collegiate football at UCLA and was selected second overall in the Canadian Football League Draft in 2017; Christopher Jordan was selected in the 71st spot overall in the 2019 Canadian Football League Draft after playing college football for Cal Poly. According to tweets published by Judge, in 2019 he was unable to walk and had to have surgery to have both of his hips replaced in addition to having his back and knees operated on.
