Beabadoobee is a singer-songwriter whose sound is steeped in the grunge of the ’90s, combining whispered confessions with forceful guitar riffs. His sound is often described as a “90s alternative” when referring to his discography. Her distinct, lo-fi style of songwriting at the time of her 2017 debut, when she released her first-ever song, “Coffee,” mirrored her love of indie artists like Elliott Smith and Kimba Dawson.
It was also her first attempt at writing music. It worked wonderfully with Clairol and similar contemporary bedroom pop artists. In addition, this performance of “Coffee” was her first-ever public appearance. However, by 2019, as seen by tracks like “Space Cadet EP,” a tribute to Sonic Youth and Pavement that includes the song “I Wanna Be Stephen Mallkus,” she had graduated from the bedroom. Both Beabadoobee’s debut album and Her Extended Play EP displayed a more developed and ambitious sound than her prior work. It was at the same time that both of these endeavors began. Both of these projects were released to the public in 2021. Beabadoobee’s music has always had an open and honest tone, and this is consistent across both of their albums.
Her family relocated to London’s Camden district when she was three years old, and she has spent her whole life there. Since then, she has considered it her permanent residence. As a young kid, she devoted many hours to perfecting her violin skills. She listened to her mother’s all-time favorite singer, Natalie Imbruglia, as well as bands like The Cranberries and Liz Phair. She also has a soft spot for Filipino pop tunes. As a young adult, she began to believe the lie that she was out of place anyplace.
Her sadness stemmed from the fact that she was the only Filipino at her all-female Catholic school. She attributes much of her aesthetic to her introduction to Kimba Dawson’s music during her time at this school. She owes a great deal to Kimba Dawson’s music. Kimba Dawson’s music was crucial in shaping her unique sense of style. Her dad surprised her on her 17th birthday by giving her an old guitar he used to play. As soon as she received the guitar from her father, she began playing to express the emotional anguish she was feeling.
A name for it The name Beabadoobee originated from an earlier social media profile she created while studying guitar online videos. She taught herself to play the instrument, and now she is a skilled musician. Although Alex G, Florist, and Karen O all had an impact on her, Dawson’s music was the most formative. She taught herself by searching the internet for tutorial videos and viewing them.
In September of that year, Beabadoobee took a recording device to the bedroom of a mutual acquaintance and recorded her debut song. The song’s title was changed to “Coffee,” and it was included on an album with that moniker. Then she put it online for everybody to see, so they could judge for themselves. She intended for her friends and family to be the only ones to hear the song, but it has gone viral, with tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of views. After hearing about Coffee’s popularity online, London-based record label Dirty Hit Records offered Beabadoobee a record deal. The record deal was a significant financial commitment.
In 2010, once she had signed with the label, she dropped two EPs on it: Lice and Patched Up. The public was given access to both of these extended plays. Her two EPs, Lice and Patched Up, follow in the same soft, uncluttered footsteps of her hit single.
She wanted a fuller sound for her music, so she recruited Eliana Sewell on bass, Louis Simolean-Faith on drums, and Jacob Bugden on guitar. Eliana plays the bass while Louis and Jacob handle the drums. Beabadoobee’s Lovelorn EP from this year took a more grungy and shoegaze-influenced direction musically. In July of this year, “Lovelorn (Bedroom Sessions)” became a downloadable album. Pete Robertson, the Vaccines’ former drummer, and the EP’s producer, was the band’s most recent percussionist.
The Space Cadet EP by That October was another elaborate homage to alternative rock and indie music of the early 1990s, and it was produced once again by Robertson. “Stay Away” (EP) was another track featured on the deluxe edition. The year 2013 concluded with Beabadoobee releasing an album featuring a cover of “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds. The band Simple Minds sang the song first. They were up for two awards in the BBC’s Sound of 2020 poll: Rising Star for the Brits and Critics’ Choice for the Sound of 2020. Both of these awards are celebrated by the United Kingdom’s music business. Both of these will occur that year. Beabadoobee, a singer-songwriter, has been nominated for a Rising Star Award. Her song “Coffee,” which she also performed, became a viral sensation on YouTube. In July of 2020, she will release her first album, Fake It Flowers.
Her family uprooted from New York to London when she was only three years old. She eventually settled in West London, where she is actively involved in the local music scene. She has a playlist that includes rock, pop, and Philippine artists.
When she was a teenager, she discovered Indie Rock forerunners like Karen O, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Florist. In 2010, she graduated from Sacred Heart High. She transferred to Hammersmith Academy to finish her high school education after being expelled.
She started out her musical journey by picking up the violin. She devoted seven years to learning the guitar. When she was seventeen years old, she finally bought her first guitar. After that, she started using YouTube to learn guitar.
