Andrew Gower was birth on November 8, 1989, in the town of Aintree, located close to Liverpool in England. He began acting during his school years when he joined a theatrical club while pursuing his A-Levels in education. Andrew received his diploma from the Oxford School of Drama in 2010 and was also awarded the Spotlight Prize in July of that same year. To this point, most of Andrew’s work has been done for the television industry. His performance as “Bonnie Prince” Charles Edward Stuart in Outlander and his part as Nick Cutler, the vampire solicitor in season 4 of Being Human, are undoubtedly the two roles that have brought him the most notoriety.
Other ventures include playing the Roman emperor Caligula in the television miniseries A.D. – The Bible Continues and the Great Detective Sherlock Holmes in the Canadian crime drama Murdoch Mysteries. Other roles include Gilbert Hankin in the BBC One historical drama The Village and the Great Detective Sherlock Holmes in the Canadian crime drama Murdoch Mysteries.
His role as the mentally disturbed James Hadfield in the last season of the renowned historical drama Poldark was included in the episode “Crocodile” from the fourth season of the science fiction anthology series Black Mirror. He also had a guest star in the twentieth season of the acclaimed British detective drama Midsomer Murders. In the historical crime drama Miss Scarlet and the Duke, he played the role of Rupert Parker, a gay companion of the eponymous heroine, Eliza Scarlet. This marked his return to the world of 19th-century crime investigation.
In 2023, viewers will see him appear as the brand-new, reoccurring character Detective Peter Andrews in season 4 of the blockbuster You on Netflix. Additionally, he will play the role of Sansum the Priest in the highly anticipated ITV adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s The Winter King. Both of these projects will air in the same year. In the second season of the “fantasy-noir” series Carnival Row, Andrew is also playing Ezra Spurnrose, the part he played in the first season.
Andrew has been a part of several short films and independent productions, allowing him to collaborate with other well-known actors and directors. These include Tom Hiddleston (Out of Darkness, written and directed by Monroe co-star Manjinder Virk) and Jon Stewart (Rosewater, alongside Gael Garcia Bernal and Claire Foy), American comedians and political activists.
A wide range of video games has been developed by Gower, who is often assisted in the creation of the game’s visuals and music by his brothers, Paul and Ian Gower. In 1995, he developed a three-dimensional platform game for the Atari S.T. titled Parallax Painter. A first-person shooter in three dimensions titled Destruction Imminent was released for the same system the following year, in 1996.
After that, he started programming in Java. Between 1997 and 1999, he developed several different Java games, most of which were published on Games Domain’s website. This contained several fun with a single-player and a 3D castle with a selection of classic multiplayer games. The name of the 3D court was Games Domain Castle, and its user interface was comparable to that of Wolfenstein 3D. After some time, Yahoo! purchased Games Domain, and the website was finally taken down.
After that, he developed an isometric role-playing game (RPG) known as DeviousMUD by using Java once again. This game was the precursor of RuneScape, which he created in 2001 from a similar premise, but this time as a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The original version of RuneScape is now more often referred to as RuneScape Classic. This version of the game was maintained live until August 2018. However, players had restricted access to it at that time.
In 2004, with the assistance of the business he formed to develop and administer the game Jagex, a graphical and engine rewrite was finished. While in production, the game was referred to as RuneScape 2, although it is now more frequently referred to as RuneScape. In collaboration with Paul, he was responsible for most of the early game’s development, including creating its talents and places.
Because he signed their news article, it’s possible that he was also responsible for developing Bounty Worlds. Additionally, he had a significant hand in developing Dungeoneering in 2009 and 2010. Andrew resigned from his position on the board of directors of Jagex in December 2010. Throughout the year 2011, he served as the primary architect for Jagex.
The RuneScape credits were deleted from his name in November 2011, and he no longer had any stakes in Jagex then. This resulted in some people harboring the opinion that he ought to be given credit for developing the game’s first version. This resulted in some disputes. However, after 2012 came to a close, the name “Andrew G.” has been included in the credits for RuneScape as a member of the game engine team.
On the occasion of the short film Ark, he collaborated with fellow actress Tamzin Merchant (Carnival Row) for the third time. In Running Naked, he played the role of Ben Taylor, a young cancer survivor who also struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder. During the summer of 2018, filming occurred for the NoW production co-written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Victor Buhler.
Andrew’s lifelong dream was to write the biography of Merseybeats artist Tommy Quickly, which eventually became the film Humpty Fucking Dumpty. A feature-length version of the short film that was released in 2020 is now in the process of being created.
Andrew is a passionate music lover and has participated in the recording of numerous tracks with his previous band, Emerson.
He has also sung some of the songs during the live performance of Frankenstein’s Wedding, a contemporary musical rendition of the classic Gothic tale. In addition, he has written several songs for the band Humpty Fucking Dumpty and is a part of the musical project Gustaffson, who published their first extended play (E.P.) in August of 2022. The role of Seiffert in “Conquest of the South Pole” at the Arcola Theatre (which also toured to the Rose Theatre in Kingston) and the role of Charlie in “Terror Tales” at the Hampstead Theatre are among Andrew’s previous theater credits.
